Dan Weyerhaeuser, Senior Pastor
Welcome to day two!
Take 4-5 minutes and “get still” before the Lord. The point of this is not making your mind “blank,” but quieting yourself down before the Lord in whose presence you sit. Give Him your undivided attention, then ask the Lord to use this time to open your mind and heart to Him. Pray He would remove distractions, both outside of you and inside of you, and pray that He would be exalted in your joy in Him in this time and that He would enlarge your mind and heart to receive Him this morning.
Remember the state of the nation as we open Isaiah 40: God brought Babylon to discipline the nation for their lack of faithfulness to Him. Their city had been overrun and they were being taken to Babylon as servants. Yikes!!! He speaks to His people to bring His comfort.
Question: Can you list 10 burdens you are carrying today? Write them down
As you look over the list, what is your reaction?
In 40:1-11, we see an incredible promise that God would one day come to bring His people back to Israel. This promise will bring comfort. 40:12-17 answers the question “Is God ABLE to deliver on what He promises?”
Read Isaiah 40:12-17 three times slowly and out loud.
What characteristics of the Lord are revealed in these verses? After you write down 4-5 characteristics, take the time to “take each truth about God and, one at a time, make it a matter of meditation before God.” Reflect on what God is like in these verses. (Take your time!)
Next to each attribute of the Lord you have written, go back and write down how each one makes a difference in your life. Then take time to thank the Lord for each one. (Again, take your time!)
Ask the Lord to bring to mind areas that you need to confess. Do so.
Take each of the benefits you have just captured, and pray them for your family, friends, and church. Ask God to make these things known in their lives.
Who are two people you know who don’t know Him? Pray for them that God would open their hearts.
What things are before you today that you need the Lord’s help with? Ask His leading and help that in each of these things, He would be honored!
