Week 10, Day 3: Deploying

By Dan Weyerhaeuser, Senior Pastor

Once more, let’s remember how we “RESET.” (Remembering why you are opening God’s Word, Emptying yourself of distractions, Praying the Scriptures by interacting with the Lord your text describes who is with you when you pray, Extending God’s blessing in prayer, and Taking scripture through the day.)

You are opening God’s Word today because you need Him. Is that right? You are opening God’s Word because you trust that He is Who you are looking for and that He loves you and wants to meet with you.

Remember, hurry diminishes our capacity to love. If your soul is “busy,” you will be distracted with Him. Take a couple of minutes. Close your eyes. Lift your attention to your heavenly Father. Ask Him to help you encounter Him and hear from Him today.

Open to Exodus 19. In this chapter, Abraham’s family has become a nation. 400 years have passed, and Moses has led the Israelites out of their slavery in Egypt. They have crossed through the Red Sea where God brought a great victory about for the nation in defeating the Egyptian army. And now they are camped at Mount Sinai where God is about to speak to them.

V. 19:2-3 God will use Moses as His spokesman. But first God has some instructions for Moses.

V. 4 God asks Israel to remember how He has worked in their past. Why is this helpful?

What are ways God has worked in your past? Remember 3-4 significant ways. As each comes to mind, thank Him.

How does it help your trust of Him in your future to remember His work in your past? Ask Him to help you trust in the future.

V. 5 While God has chosen Israel as His own, they have to “receive” His love by “obeying His voice and keeping His covenant.” Obedience does not earn God’s covenant love. But it is how they respond to it if they want Him.

Still today, God wants us to obey His command, and His commands are good. We do so because we trust Him. Are there ways you have been obeying God’s commands? What are some ways? Thank Him for how good they are.

Are there ways you have not been obeying His commands? Ask His forgiveness. Repent (turn away from evil and towards Him). Ask Him to give you grace to follow in this area/

V. 6 God’s people who are walking with Him “shall be to God a Kingdom of priests and a holy nation.” Priests are representatives. God’s people will represent God to people in the world, and people to God in prayer. In other words the entire nation have been deployed by God as intermediaries between God and people, though whom He would speak.

How do you respond to the idea that God’s people are His priests to the world? This includes you. Talk with Him about this.

Again, God’s means of reaching the world is through us. It is not that He needs us. He honors us by involving us in so great a plan!

Can you think of two people you will see today who don’t yet know the good Kingship of Christ? Take a moment and pray for both of them, that God’s Spirit would give them new birth. Then watch for how He brings you two together!

As you conclude: What is one truth about God from these texts you can take through your day? How can you remember it?

Now go spend your day with the God Who deploys you!
